The transition from primary school to secondary school can be overwhelming. Working closely with our local primary schools we run a comprehensive programme of transition events designed to support children through this life-changing experience. Our transition days help build the confidence and self-belief pupils need to progress smoothly from a primary school environment to a new educational experience as part of the Our Lady’s school family.
Primary school pupils from years 4, 5 and 6 will be invited to their own specifically tailored transition days where they will be given the opportunity to experience a variety of high school ‘taster’ lessons. Parents/carers will be kept informed with the dates for each transition day. Throughout the school year parents will also have the opportunity to attend events such as carol concerts and creative arts showcases, giving you the opportunity to see the wonderful work that takes place here at Our Lady’s and to have a look around the school.
We now run an engaging range of interactive transition day experiences which have really helped to spark any interest the students have in science and the creative arts. Primary children are invited to Our Lady’s to take part in musical activities, craft competitions, technology classes and our increasingly popular SPI Days.
Our annual Open Evening towards the end of the summer term provides an ideal opportunity to get a flavour of our school, speak to students and staff and raise any queries and concerns that you may have. The news section of our website is regularly updated with upcoming events so you can save the date. This September (week commencing 25th) we are also holding a week of Open Days for parents/carers of children starting in their final year at primary school. These Open Days will enable you to drop in on a ‘typical’ school day, visiting lessons and getting a real sense of what your child can expect if they choose a high school education at Our Lady’s.
Our Primary Transition Manager, Miss Tkaczuk also works in partnership with staff at the Whitworth Art Gallery to organise interactive educational trips where she accompanies the primary school children. If you are have any ideas for additional transition programmes that you feel would benefit your pupils/children then we are always open to feedback. If your primary school is interested in finding out more about our transition programme and you'd like to work with us then please email Miss Tkaczuk.
We are extremely proud of our school and are always willing to show parents/carers of prospective pupils around. If you are unable to attend one of our organised events and wish to take a tour of our school, please email Sally Royle (PA to Headteacher) or call her on 0161 234 3502.
