For a few years now some of our Year 8 and 9 students have been fortunate enough to get the opportunity to travel to Bugibba in Malta to experience football in another country as well as enjoying a range of entertainment.
This residential trip offers an exciting opportunity for our students to soak up some sunshine whilst learning about the Maltese culture and meeting students from Malta’s football clubs and academies.
Our students embrace the fantastic experience of playing in a couple of football tournaments against English and Maltese teams. With plenty of football training by day they also get to the chance to enjoy various recreational activities in the evenings including a disco, a foam party and a presentation dinner. Staying in a 4 Star hotel with superb facilities, the staff and tour operators always comment on how respectful, well-mannered and well behaved the group from Our Lady’s is, which is lovely feedback to receive.
Whilst the main focus of the weekend is football training and tournaments, activities also include watching local teams play, visiting local areas of culture, a beach trip and a boat cruise around the island. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to spend a week away from the school environment absorbing the Maltese culture and facing any challenges presented by going abroad without parents/carers to become more independent.
The highlight of the 2016 trip was winning the Malta Rally Tournament – the culmination of a week’s training and hard work. It was a truly memorable week and it is so rewarding to see our students having a fantastic time and smiling throughout the trip.
“Awesome. Please let us come back next year!”
