Ethos:

Cultural diversity is at the heart of our school community and we hope to promote an awareness, curiosity and acceptance of different cultures in the process of learning a Modern Foreign Language. We foster positive attitudes, tolerance, acceptance and respect whilst creating confident, motivated linguists. We offer students the opportunity to learn about other cultures, festivals and customs alongside the grammatical structures and key vocabulary of the language of study. Being able to speak in the target language first is at the heart of the language learning process and we encourage all students to communicate as spontaneously as possible in the classroom. Students will also develop skills in the areas of listening, reading, writing and translation through the themes of:
• Identity and culture
• Local, national, international and global areas of interest
• Current and future study and employment
We are passionate about language learning and our aim is to inspire, motivate, challenge and reward our students in this increasingly important area of the curriculum.

Aims:

• To produce skilled linguists who are able to communicate in the target language verbally and in the written form
• To develop reading and listening skills

• To provide students with the skills to communicate effectively in the country of study in real life contexts
