One: A Warm Welcome

All our students are made to feel welcome from day one. Our year 7s receive free school uniform to welcome them into the school family. Many of them will already have visited Our Lady’s several times as part of our primary transition programme so the school environment will already be a familiar one. Our transition days help build the confidence and self-belief pupils need to progress smoothly from a primary school environment to a new educational experience as part of the Our Lady’s school family.

Two: Our Happy Community

At Our Lady’s we are a diverse, happy and outward looking community who support each other. Our Ofsted report notes how our students form positive relationships with their peers and staff. We welcome all communities into our school and this spirit of inclusion ensures that the pastoral care of staff and students reinforces the values of the Gospel message of love, respect and forgiveness. We recognise that each student is an individual and we support them accordingly to maximise personal, educational and spiritual outcomes.

Three: The Support to Achieve

The teachers and staff encourage every student to achieve great things. The Ofsted Inspectors praised our commitment to preparing our students for life when they leave Our Lady’s. We offer a variety of workshops, enterprise days and careers guidance to enable our students to consider their options. By informing them about further education and apprenticeship opportunities we provide the support they need to go on to achieve great things. Our school Vision magazine often follows up our former students to find out about the wonderful things they’ve achieved since leaving school.

Four: A Journey of Faith

Faith is central to our achievement and success. We welcome all faiths and throughout the school year we worship together, as a community. All staff and students are encouraged to ‘live life to the full’ and walk together in our journey of faith with Christ. We encourage everyone to work together to care, respect and accept all individuals in our school community and the society around us. By being accepting of each other we can learn from each other and grow as individuals in our faith journey.

Five: We Let Talent Shine

Are you creative? Our Expressive Arts department will help you to shine. Each year our talented students wow audiences with their incredible stage productions which have included ‘Les Miserables’ and ‘We Will Rock You. ‘Our ‘Voices of Our Lady’s’ choir has also had great success. Collaborating with St Clare’s primary school choir they showcased their talent at the Music for Youth Festival in Rochdale and were selected to travel to Birmingham and take part in the national festival. And if you’re a talented artist or you enjoy creative writing, we’ll give you the support to let that talent shine.

Six: Great Sporting Opportunities

With loads of sporting opportunities, everyone can take part. Our dedicated PE department trains, supports and encourages our students and this is reflected in their many sporting successes. Our student’s athletics and football teams have enjoyed plenty of success winning the Manchester and county indoor championships and recently became Manchester league and cup champions for the first time in Our Lady’s history which is a fantastic achievement for all involved.

Seven: Strong Links to Business

We work in partnership with big businesses to develop new skills. Enabling Enterprise is an award-winning not-for-profit social enterprise who equips young people with the skills, experiences and aspirations they need to succeed in life. Working in partnership with businesses like PricewaterhouseCoopers, they introduce the world of work to our students through a combination of lesson-time projects, challenge days and trips to business supporters. The Enabling Enterprise Day at PwC has become an inspirational annual trip for Our Lady’s.

Eight: Memorable School Trips

We go on many memorable school trips and retreats. Our Lady’s annual Year 7 trip to Langdale gets high school life off to a great start, creating an excellent opportunity for our new students to get away from the classroom for a few days to bond with their classmates. Our residential retreats to Savio House in the beautiful Cheshire countryside also provide the perfect opportunity for quiet contemplation and thought-provoking group discussion. Throughout your time at Our Lady’s there are lots of opportunities for exciting and educational school trips to places like London, Paris, Malta and New York!

Nine: A Smooth Transition Experience

We work with primary schools, inviting pupils to fun and interactive sessions. Our engaging range of interactive transition day experiences spark young imaginations, introducing our potential new students to the different opportunities science and the creative arts can open up for them. Primary children are invited to Our Lady’s to take part in musical activities, craft competitions, technology classes, our popular SPI (forensic science investigation) days and the Konflux Theatre in Education ‘Play in a Day’ workshops.

Ten: Excellent Teaching and Learning

Our GOOD Ofsted rating reflects our high standards and strong attitudes to learning. Ofsted commented; “Outcomes are good. This is because of high standards and expectations, strong attitudes to learning and good or better teaching.” This is reflected in our best-ever GCSE results in the summer. Our 9-4 (old A*-C) combined English and Maths pass rate was 64% which exceeds previous years and is significantly higher than our previous bed of 57%. Our exceptional results highlight how much Our Lady’s has developed and how hard our staff and students work to succeed.
