Uniform

All pupils are required to wear school uniform which is attractive and practical. We ask for co-operation of parents in the matter of their children wearing school uniform and in seeing that every item is marked clearly. We ask you to note especially that jewellery and caps must not be worn. Pupils with pierced ears may only wear studs.

We believe in school uniform and expect all pupils to wear it. We do not like making distinctions and therefore, ask parents’ co-operation in this matter. A pupil not in school uniform supported by parents in the matter is often a disruptive element and works against the aim of the school to produce citizens of character. Uniform may appear to be expensive but not in comparison with costly items of fashion which parents would obviously have to provide if it was left to the pupils themselves.

EQUIPMENT

All Pupils will also need:

LOCKERS

School is now able to offer every student a personal locker for storage of clothing, books etc. throughout the year for a nominal deposit. These are available from the Finance Office

JEWELLERY

Bracelets, nosestuds, other facial studs and rings are not allowed. A cross and chain may be worn under a shirt or blouse but must be taken off for Physical Education lessons.

The rules on jewellery are simply for health and safety reasons. Pupils breaking these rule will have their jewellery confiscated. It will be returned directly to parents or given back to children at the end of term to take home. The school does not accept any liability for the confiscated jewellery while in the school’s care.

MAKE UP

Make up is not to be worn at school. This includes false eyelashes.

HAIRSTYLES

Shaven heads and shaved patterns are not allowed, neither is bizarrely coloured hair or extensions. Such hairstyles are not in keeping with the image of the school which we are trying to foster. Pupils with these hairstyles will be sent home until the hairstyle is acceptable, or referred to STEPS.

MOBILE PHONES

Mobile phones are allowed as an emergency measure only and should not be seen or used during the school working day. They should be kept in a school bag in the OFF mode. Students are permitted to use them at social time OUTSIDE the school building. Currently, some phones contain some unsavoury material. If any pupil is found to be showing or transmitting anything of this nature to other pupils' phones, this may well become a police matter

The school accepts no liability for the loss or theft of any personal items in school.
