A Hive of Autumn Activities

There’s a definite chill developing as autumn gets underway yet the hive of activities at Our Lady’s continues apace. On Monday 26 September we celebrated the European Day of Languages with a range of activities and games in the Modern Foreign Languages department. Students also had the opportunity to sample different European foods and the canteen flew the flag for Spain, Italy and France by serving a delicious range of traditional dishes over lunchtime. Days like this provide a really valuable opportunity to open up discussions about other countries’ cultures and traditions.

As we approach the end of the first half term of the academic year, our Year 7s are settling in well. This week they are off to Langdale for a voyage of discovery. Split into two groups (Monday to Wednesday and Wednesday to Friday) each group gets the exhilarating opportunity to engage in adventurous team-building activities learning new outdoor skills in a beautiful Lake District setting. Over the past few years this residential trip has been a real success, encouraging new friendships as students support each other in keeping with the Our Lady’s school ethos of working together to achieve their goals.

Talking of new year 7s, we continue to meet potential Our Lady’s students of the future at the local primary school parent’s evenings this month. It is a great opportunity to chat to the primary pupils and their parents/carers about what they are looking for in a high school and to spread the word about the excellent provision offered by Our Lady’s.

At Our Lady’s we are always keen to show our support to charitable causes. This Thursday (13 October) we are holding a coffee morning for Macmillan cancer support. Some of our staff have entered the ‘Great Our Lady’s Cake Off’ and the results of their baking will be judged as part of the coffee morning. Parents and carers of our students are welcome to this event which runs from 10am-12pm, so please come along. Refreshments and cakes will be available in return for a small donation and all money raised will go directly to Macmillan helping to save lives with every slice we serve.
