RE Inspection
Tue 17 Oct 2023On the 5th and 6th of October we were inspected by the Catholic Schools Inspectorate, and we are extremely pleased and proud to be able to report to you that our school has been judged ‘Outstanding’ in all areas. This is a significant achievement for the school and reflects the fantastic work that goes on at Our Lady’s every day.
Numerous areas of outstanding practice were highlighted by the inspectors, and the full report is now available for you to read, but the following are a summary of the key findings:
- Leaders in the school have created a faith filled community that is fully inclusive, welcoming and ambitious for all, where staff are strong role models for students.
- Pastoral care for everyone, but especially those that are most vulnerable is exceptional.
- There is an environment where behaviour is exemplary underpinned by a climate of mutual respect.
- Outcomes in Religious Education are strong.
- The school is committed to creating a meaningful and accessible sacramental and liturgical experience to develop the faith lives of the whole school.
A copy of the full report is available through the following link https://www.olhs-manchester.org.uk/salford-diocese-inspection/ and on request from the School Office.
Securing the judgement of ‘Outstanding’ for Our Lady’s is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our students, staff and governors. We also greatly value the contribution parents have made to the success of the school. I don’t think the inspectors had seen such an overwhelmingly positive response from parents before. Going forwards, with your support, we hope to continue to deliver outstanding educational outcomes for your children and improve their experience even further.

Year 8 - Langdale Residential Trip
Wed 06 Oct 2021Information regarding Year 8 Trip to Langdale
Thank you very much to those of you who came out in the rain last night for the year 8 information evening on Langdale. For those who couldn’t attend, please follow the link below to view the presentation and key information that we went through:
Group 1 - Monday 11th October – Wednesday 13th October
F1, F3, F5, F7
Group 2- Wednesday 13th October- Friday 15th October
F2, F4, F6, F8
All students must be at school, in the dance studio at 8.30am on their day of departure so that the coach can be loaded up and ready to leave at 9am – latecomers will be left behind so please ensure your child arrives on time. Pupils should wear their own, weather appropriate clothing on this day. The students will return to school at 14:50 on the last day of their trip to ensure they can get home like normal. Students will be given a packed lunch for the first day of the trip but may bring additional snacks if preferred.
The kit needed for the week is as follows:
Waterproof jacket (lightweight waterproof is fine)
Wellies
Sturdy outdoor shoes (recommended, not essential)
Old clothes that are ok to get muddy
Jumpers
Multiple pairs of socks
Towel
Small rucksack
Plastic bag for wet kit
Water bottle
Suncream
Toiletries (including shampoo, body wash, toothpaste etc)
alongside all other items that a child would need for a stay away e.g. pyjamas, underwear, sanitary products etc. Pupils will be expected to take part in activities in all weather conditions so please ensure your child has spare clothes to change in to in the event that they get wet.
Pupils are permitted to bring £5 for the onsite tuck shop if they wish. This sells confectionary and snacks.
We kindly request that no electronics are brought on to the trip, including mobile phones. Where we are staying has no signal or wifi and we find phones particularly to be very distracting for pupils in attendance. There is a landline at the youth hostel which pupils are welcome to use and parents/carers will be given a contact number for in the case of an emergency.
The trip has been organised with the Youth Hostel Association. Our Lady’s staff will be supervising the children throughout the trip, with the YHA’s excellent and fully qualified staff leading all activities.
Behaviour in school in the weeks before the trip must be excellent for all children. Bad behaviour in school will result in children being withdrawn from the trip. We anticipate that behaviour at the centre will be excellent with all children having a fantastic time.
If you have any questions please contact Miss Watkins or Mr Cope in school on 0161 507 9640.

COVID Home Testing
Fri 02 Jul 2021As you will be aware there are rising cases of Covid-19 in the local community. Manchester City Council are encouraging all people in the borough to take rapid tests as this is an important part of the easing of restrictions and getting life back to normal.
Our pupils have missed a significant amount of school and we wish to keep all of our pupils safe and disruption to a minimum which is why we are asking for your support to ensure that your child carries out lateral flow tests at home.
Taking a rapid COVID-19 test twice a week, even if you do not have symptoms, will help the country stay ahead of the spread of the virus, particularly as new strains appear. Around 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 have no symptoms and are spreading the virus without knowing. This includes those who have had their vaccine.
When should my child take their test?
We are asking students take one of their two lateral flow tests on a Monday morning before school. If this is not possible, we would ask you to do it on a Sunday evening.
Do NOT attend school if anyone in the household tests positive. Your household should isolate and a confirmatory PCR test should be arranged for your child.
All students should home test twice a week, including over the holidays, and report all results online here https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result or call 119 for free. All results must be recorded whether positive, negative or void. Recording all test results helps scientists stay ahead of the virus by spotting new outbreaks quickly and advising how to respond.
Where can I get the test kits?
All students have been given home test kits, if we have your permission. If your child needs a kit, please ask them to visit the main office in school or you can order them online here: https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests
There is a video guide on how to administer the tests here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9XR8RZxKNo
There is further information on the Manchester City Council website here https://secure.manchester.gov.uk/info/500362/covid-19/8102/covid-19_testing/2
Thank you for all your support.
