RE
The Religious Studies Department has a vision of cultivating an environment where all pupils are given the opportunity to achieve beyond their expectations through fostering curiosity, a hard-working mentality and a willingness to persevere in all circumstances. We aim to develop the whole child on a spiritual, moral, social and cultural level through giving them opportunities to form their identities through discussion and learning. We receive guidance on the Curriculum requirements from The Religious Education Directory for Catholic Schools in England and Wales for Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9). For Key Stage 4, our Exam Board is Edexcel GCSE RS A, where we study Catholic Christianity, Judaism and Philosophy & Ethics. Some of our Year 11 pupils are also given the opportunity to be put forward for the Entry Level Certificate (ELC), as an alternative to the GCSE. All lessons for all years are underpinned with the golden thread of Catholic Social Teaching, as we create links between the 7 CST themes and the lessons they are studying. The CST's are also core values which help us to live out our school mission statement "To Know, Love and Serve God".
The Religious Studies Department are committed to fostering and encouraging positive learning environments where all children are given opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding of Catholic life and faith, as well as an appreciation for the beliefs, traditions and opinions of others. We consider ourselves role models for our pupils as we embody the example of honesty, respect, tolerance, understanding and responsibility.
