Drama
Drama is an expressive and engaging subject at Our Lady’s which blends practical work and theory to create critical thinkers and theatre makers of our students. Drama also naturally provides a forum and opportunity to develop key social and interpersonal skills, through roleplay and other techniques, which are highly sought after at both higher education level and in the jobs sector across all disciplines. We are an inclusive and dynamic department with excellent studio facilities and an exciting curriculum.
Students at Our Lady’s study Drama at KS3. Exploring a range of skills, genres and plays including Survivors: An Introduction to Drama skills, Physical Theatre: A Genre Study and a variety of scripts from Shakespeare, Blood Brothers and DNA, with key themes filtering down from our GCSE Set Text. Students are also given the opportunity to explore the design route within Drama including topics on Costume, Hair & Makeup, Set, Lighting and sound design.
At GCSE from year 10, students follow the EDUQAS GCSE Drama specification. They will develop their understanding of theatre including how to interpret the work of others as well as creating their own pieces. As part of the course, students are required to take part in group performances as actors or designers including devising their own theatre and bringing extracts of published play texts from the page to the stage. Regular theatre visits are also undertaken as the course requires students to experience live theatre.
