PSHCE
Our PSHCE curriculum aims to provide all students with age appropriate access to well- sequenced, up-to-date and high-quality lessons which are tailored to meet the needs of our diverse community.
The PSHCE curriculum focuses on four key strands:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Sex and relationships
- Wider World including CEIAG (Careers Education, Information and Guidance)
- Citizenship
with pupils studying topics that build in complexity as they move through KS3 and KS4. Pupils receive 1 x PSHCE lesson fortnightly, at both KS3 and KS4, as a dedicated period on their timetable. This ensures that the subject, and the important content that it covers, is given the appropriate time and space to be delivered fully within the school day. The PSHCE curriculum also plays a pivotal role in fulfilling the statutory requirements for delivering RSE and the citizenship national curriculum.
Our intent is that this 5 year programme of study, offers pupils the opportunity to develop a broad and deep understanding of the above strands, whilst also beginning to reflect on and clarify their own values and attitudes towards these topics. Through the teaching of PSHCE and wider personal development opportunities, pupils are encouraged to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to take responsibility for themselves, to show and offer respect to others and develop their confidence and self-awareness.
We encourage our students to be enterprising and through PSHCE, we support them in making effective transitions, informed decisions, positive learning and career choices and in achieving economic well being. In addition, we seek to ensure all students have the knowledge, skills and attributes to keep themselves healthy, safe and prepared for life and work as a citizen in modern Britain.
