Geography
Welcome to Geography at Our Lady’s RC High School!
Geography is an exciting and dynamic subject, that looks at both the physical structure of the planet and the social structure (i.e. how we affect our environment and how it affects us) in the past, present and future.
Simply put…
Q: What is Geography?
A: Everything!
What does a typical Geography lesson look like?
Geography is such a broad subject that no two lessons should ever be the same.
We study a huge variety of topics from Treacherous Tectonics to the Almighty Dollar, from One Planet, Many People to Africa, it’s a Continent!
Geographers ask the big questions and we use these questions to investigate places, processes, past, present and future. Geography is the subject which opens the door to a dynamic world of amazing beauty, infinite complexity and rigorous challenge; it prepares each one of us for the role of global citizen in the 21st century. By studying geography, we begin to appreciate how places and landscapes are formed, how people and environments interact, what consequences arise from our everyday decisions, and what a diverse range of cultures and societies exist and interconnect. It develops an appreciation of the complexity of attitudes and values which shape the way we use and misuse the environment. Through geography, people learn to value and care for the planet and all its inhabitants.
